Dalmard MarineThe International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO) is very pleased to welcome Dalmard Marine to our 2025 Congress in Lille from 20 to 23 May 2025. Founded in 1922, Dalmard Marine designs and manufactures elegant and sustainable marine clothing for Europe, and is committed to the use of natural, sustainable fibres, especially wool.

The History of Dalmard Marine

Dalmard Marine is a family business founded in 1922 in Paimpol, a commune in Brittany, northwest France. Combining the local marine culture with a strong expertise in fashion, the business has created clothing that beautifully embodies the maritime heritage. The Dalmard Marine brand has become synonymous with timeless, elegant and durable marine clothing.

The company was set up by Armand Le Guen, a sailor from Terre Neuvas, who began by making foulies and jackets for the fishermen of Iceland, using recycled canvas from tents. In 1950, Le Guen’s daughter Annick and her husband Honoré Dalmard took over the business. Drawing on the skills of home dressmakers, they extended the product line to include peacoats and kabigs (traditional Breton hooded fisherman’s coat) made from woollen cloth. They opened a new boutique in 1962 on Place du Martray, Paimpol. In 1982, the third generation, represented by Thierry and Soizic Dalmard, took over the business and expanded the collections while developing sales outlets in Europe. In 2017, Maxime Dalmard took the helm of the family business.

Dalmard Marine and Wool

Since its foundation, Dalmard Marine has been committed to the use of natural fibres. Wool is central to its philosophy and output. For example, Dalmard Marine’s genuine pea coats have been manufactured from pure wool for decades. Now run by the fourth generation of its founding family, represented by Maxime Dalmard, Dalmard Marine has taken its commitment to natural, sustainable fibres several steps further by recycling and transforming woollen coats collected at its Paimpol workshop.

IWTO is pleased to welcome Maxime Dalmard and Gildas Martin as speakers at the 94th annual IWTO Congress. Together, Maxime and Gildas will explore:

  • The history of Dalmard Marine and the central place of recycling
  • Why do we trust in wool?
  • What do we offer the consumer?
  • Our recycling projects
  • Our plan for the next 20 years
